MICROPROD’s partner CompNet is hosting an online conference on Zoom (originally scheduled to take place in Bratislava, SK) on “Sustainable development, firm performance and competitiveness policies in small open economies”. The webinar will take place from the 22nd until 24th of June 2020.
The conference will take place over 3 days (2 short sessions per day), and will welcome (World Trade Organization) as a keynote speaker.
The final programme can be found HERE.
On February 13th-14th, a MICROPROD Workshop with Nordic NSIs will take place in Copenhagen. As a follow-up to the 2nd Pilot NSI Workshop that took place in September last year, where key variables for improving and harmonizing productivity measurements have been discussed, this additional workshop aims at bringing on board Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden National Statistical Institutes (NSIs). Their experience will be invaluable for setting up a cross-country harmonized data infrastructure and meta-data catalogue, when legal and technical constraints complicate microdata linking in other countries. Discussions will focus on cross-country legal requirements, conditions for data access, and expanding the existing data infrastructure for micro level productivity measurement by adding variables chosen from available data sources that are linked within the Nordic NSIs’ database, and that are necessary to construct firm-level measures of intangibles. Then drawing on this experience, the aim is to be able to provide guidelines to other NSIs.
MICROPROD’s 1st policy dialogue will take place on 4th December in Brussels, and will be hosted by Bruegel. This policy dialogue will bring academics, statisticians and institutional experts together with policy-makers and National Productivity Boards representatives, to discuss the following questions:
- Do we measure productivity correctly?
- Do we understand all the mechanisms at work, from intangible investments to integrating into global value chains?
- What do these measurement issues and the current proposals to remedy them imply for future policies?
Panellists and participants will take stock of the current challenges in productivity measurement, discuss the preliminary findings of the project and reflect on future research and policy priorities.

MICROPROD partners held their second annual consortium meeting on 3rd-4th December 2019. During this 2-day event, the partners got the opportunity to provide updates on all Work Packages’ activities, and to start preparation of the upcoming periodic report and review meeting, both meant to provide the European Commission with updates on the project progress and with opportunities to provide feedback.
On September 24th-25th, the 2nd MICROPROD Pilot NSI Workshop will take place in Amsterdam. As part of Work Package 1, this event brings together representatives from National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) and MICROPROD to extend and improve the available data for micro level productivity measurement. The purpose of this workshop is to follow up on the discussion about data availability and feasibility with representatives of the NSIs. After general questions on data availability have been clarified in our first workshop in May this year, we now plan to discuss in depth the definition of key variables relevant for improving productivity measurement as well as technical and implementation issues regarding the creation of a harmonized data base which will be subsequently used and tested by our project partners.
The Agenda is available here.
MICROPROD’s 1st Pilot NSI workshop took place in Halle, Germany, on 6th-7th May 2019. The workshop gathered the representatives of the statistical institutes from Denmark, Poland, France, Germany and the Netherlands and the representatives of MICROPROD Consortium. This initial meeting allowed to check the availability of data that MICROPROD consortium will be able to exploit.
The MICROPROD consortium held its kick-off meeting on 5th-6th February 2019. During this 2-day event the partners got the opportunity to get to know each other, to present the plan of work for their respective work-packages, to elect the governing bodies of the consortium and to agree to the overall internal organisation of the project.
